Whittaker and Watt Chartered Architects were asked by the NIHE to provide a scheme for 18 residential units (7no 3bedroom townhouses and 11no. 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Each of the townhouses was to have its private own front and rear gardens and in-curtilage car parking. All the units were to be equipped with DDA accessible indoor and outdoor recycling facilities, outdoor drying spaces and bicycle shelters.

The sustainability and energy efficiency standards for Code For Sustainable Homes Level 3 was achieved. The scheme had to meet the highest standards of ‘Life Time Homes’ guidance and ‘Secured By Design’ requirements.

Together with a sustainable mechanical and electrical approach and usage of the LZCGT such as hot water solar panels, high performance gas boilers, hot water flow restrictors and energy saving light fittings the energy demand and CO2 emission of these dwellings have incredibility low running costs for the occupants.
